Eco-congregation Canada

an environmental toolkit for churches

ecocongregation

Eco-Congregation is an ecumenical environmental project for churches in Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Canada. It provides web-based resources and support that help churches consider environmental issues in the context of their Christian life and mission while encouraging positive action. Churches that complete the Eco-congregation program are awarded a certificate that they can display in their churches.

Eco-congregation Canada is a program of A Rocha Canada. See www.ecocongregation.org for other Eco-congregation programs around the world.

How to become an Eco-congregation

Step 1 Get Started.

  • Order a copy of the Church Checkup Module 1 from A Rocha Canada.
  • Form a small group to work through the check-up.
  • Prioritize your first steps.
  • Submit your check-up to A Rocha Canada with an outline of your next steps.
  • Order the modules for areas that you would like to work on or download them here (*coming soon*).

Step 2 Get Cracking!

  • After getting the resources, distribute them to the appropriate people in your church
(eg. Worship resources to worship leader, property resources to property committee).
  • Encourage action!

Step 3 Share Your Story.

Your stories help encourage and empower others in their biblical call to care for all creation. Share your story with
A Rocha Canada and we will incorporate them into future versions of the modules as examples of what churches are doing.

Churches that undertake initiatives with spiritual, practical and community dimensions are also encouraged to apply
for the Eco-congregation Certificate. To recieve a certificate:

  • Keep a record of your church’s environmental activities.
  • Share your stories, struggles, and successes with A Rocha Canada.
