A Rocha Canada is offering internships (3 month minimum) in each of the
following areas at the Field Study Centre in Surrey, BC:
Agriculture, Education, and
Conservation. The ability to work well independently and as
part of a team, willingness to work in other project areas as needed and
directed, including occasional weekends are requirements for consideration.
Internships usually include a residential component with room and board at the
centre, which involves interns in hospitality towards the wider A Rocha
community and the general public.
Cost: Room and board at $600.00 per month.
Environmental Education Intern:
This position is suited for an applicant who is passionate, experienced and
confident in working with children and would provide valuable experience gained
leading activities with groups of children for school programs, day camp
programs, summer camp workshops and community events on and off-site. Further
duties include research and creation of resources for these programs.
Sustainable Agriculture Intern:
Gain valuable experience in small-scale sustainable agriculture/community
shared agriculture (CSA) by assisting the Farm & Nursery Manager to plan,
manage and implement the garden season as well as assist with the work of the
native plant nursery. Position includes physical labour outdoors — planting,
harvesting, weeding, watering in the garden; organizing and assisting with
weekend watering schedules; liaison with community members, project shareholders
and supervision of volunteers.
Conservation Intern:
Develop and participate in fish and wildlife conservation and enhancement
projects such as fish, amphibian and bird enhancements, native plantings and
various wildlife surveys. Participate in local stewardship events, liaise with
community members and supervise volunteers. Research and develop resource
materials related to stewardship and fish and wildlife habitat. Assist with the
native plant nursery.
