I
joined in the peaceful march alongside about 100,000 others calling for climate
justice and bold political action from leaders. We wait to see what will be
achieved by our leaders, if anything, at the summit. Regardless of the politics,
it was an empowering and exciting experience to join with so many thousands of
peaceful demonstrators from all over the world, each proclaiming an important
message of justice and righteousness for the earth and all that is in it - a
message that resonates deeply for all of us at A Rocha. We hope that the
politicians and leaders will hear that cry and decide to put it at the forefront
of the agenda.
We were there as part of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition. they had
brilliantly organised the travel (which did take a very long time!) and
coordinated things for us so so well. On arrival, after one hours' sleep in our
school dormitory, we linked in with the Friends of the Earth 'Flood for Climate
Justice' on the Saturday morning, joined with the likes of the Via Campesina
amongst others. In the afternoon we joined the many other thousands of people
taking to the streets to march to the Bella Centre where as night fell, and the
temperature, thousands took part in the
350.org candle vigils for an hour or two. It
was a phenomenal day of action!
