The Gower Project's Aims
The Gower Project is a charitably run Christian youth camp based at St Madoc
centre, founded in the 1940’s. The camp mainly reaches out to disadvantaged and
disaffected young adults, letting them escape their day to day lives, offering
children a chance to rediscover their childhood, providing a place to learn new
skills and gain experiences which they may not have the opportunity to do so
elsewhere. The Gower Project also aims to give schools, churches and youth
groups a place to come to experience the outdoors and nature as it should be.
The St Madoc Centre is located on the Gower Peninsula (the UK's first
designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), ten miles from Swansea and is
one of the most beautiful regions of South Wales. It is only fitting that the
site is managed to reflect both its physical location and the values and
principles of its origins. The aims of the project are to continue the
management of the site for its original purposes: youth education and sanctuary;
and to develop the wider site through the enhancement and nurturing of the
conservation value of the land.
