Our long term projects are those that take over a year to implement.
Below are out current long term projects that we are working on.
Sustainable management of Lake Bosomtwe: Lake
Bosomtwe is gradually becoming one of the most threatened natural sites in
Ghana. The main objectives of A Rocha’s project regarding Lake Bosomtwe are to
explore and create means for alternative livelihoods in surrounding communties.
Community Evangelism, Health, and Conservation
Program (COEVAHCOP): This program aims to further the objective of
increasing spiritual, socio-economic, and environmental benefits through
elevated community attitudinal change. A Rocha Ghana, in partnership with A
Rocha Knust (a student wing of A Rocha Ghana), adopted this innovative approach
of reaching out to total communities and vulnerable groups by engendering
Christian and spiritual virtues, environmental values, and positive healthy life
styles.

Savannaland Destination Tourism
Programme
The Savannaland Desination Tourism programme focuses on increasing tourism in
Northern Ghana. The goal is to support fringe communities of Mole and Bui
National Parks, promote eco-tourism, and ensure the conservation of wildlife,
cultural heritage, and traditions in Northern Ghana.
Village Tree Enterprise
The
Ghana Village Tree Enterprise seeks to improve the economic situation of
disadvantaged households in the Northern Savannah regions. A Rocha's Village
Tree Enterprise project aims to help at least 200 individuals to establish of
expand their small enterprises, based on the sustainable harvesting and
processing of tree products.
Climate Stewards: Since 1957, 75% of Ghana’s
trees have been cut down for the timber export trade, to increase the area
available for cocoa cultivation, or simply for firewood. In response to this
disturbing trend, A Rocha Ghana partnered with the Climate Stewards project in
2007 to coordinate a small-scale tree planting programme throughout our network
of schools, university groups, and rural communities.
Local Schools Eco-Program: Information coming soon
Education Clubs:
During the dry season, groups of children in Northern Ghana commonly skip
school for the excitement of setting fire to the scrub and clubbing the animals
as they rush out. By creating environmental clubs at local schools, A Rocha
aims to stop the bush burning and instill in the children a desire to protect
their unique but fragile ecosystem.
Territoy Conservation Management: Information coming soon.
Atewa Critical Conservation Action Programme
(ACCAP)
The ACCAP strives to enhance national and global visibility of the
conservation threat facing Atewa Range Forest Reserve through public advocacy,
help facilitate the development of a conservationstrategy for the Atewa forest
range as well as facilitate the development of action-driven, socio-ecological
development that thrives on the utilisation potential of Atewa Range Forest
Reserve.
