Urban Schools Environment Education Program (USEEP)The Urban Schools Environment Education Program (USEEP) is a program of the Education Department of A Rocha India, conducted in schools of urban cities of India. The USEEP with the theme 'Know Your Campus' is based on the science of Campus Ecology; presently has the urban schools of Bangalore city very passionately participating in a year-long activity leading to environmental audits and management recommendations for an eco-friendly school environment. The subject, Campus Ecology has been chosen as Campus ecology uses the campus as a laboratory for the study of resource flows and for the implementation of environmentally sound alternatives to catalyze change and it effectively communicates the subject of sustainability. The program has been broadly designed to teach the children issues relating to water, solid waste, soil and biodiversity. These elements are part of any landscape; therefore they are expected to be present in school campuses and thus becomes an integral part of the programme. These topics are being taught over a period of 8 months in a year, wherein each month will focus on a specific landscape element namely water, solid waste, soil and biodiversity. An additional assessment of the ecological literacy of the school students is done prior to the campus audit and environment recommendations for the schoolcampus. Thus the USEEP envisages engaging school children of urban cities in learning about the environment and making them responsible stewards of the earth. Preseantly the United Mission High School and Christ Academy High School, Bangalore are enrolled in this program. For further details please contact us at india@aorcha.org or + 91 98860 16260 |
