Several ways have been thought of to resolve the ever lasting man-elephant conflict around Bannerghatta National Park (BNP). Most of them have failed, but one of the tried and successful methods of curtailing pachyderms entering the farmland is through chilli-tobacco fences. These fences will now be put up across some crucial forest areas.
This method proved successful in the experiments conducted last year by A Rocha India, an NGO in five villages with the help of the forest department. Now the two organisations are identifying vulnerable areas of the 104 square kilometre forest periphery for creating these fences.
