Student's Guide to Serving God and Saving the Planet

Emma Sleeth is a freshman who is studying English at Asbury College,
Kentucky. Creation care is nothing new to Emma, whose father, Dr. Matthew
Sleeth, is the author of Serve God, Save the Planet and travels widely for A
Rocha USA, taking the creation care message to churches, college campuses and
conferences. Emma calls taking care of the planet, “the family business”.
When she was twelve her father left the medical profession to devote himself
full-time to teaching, writing and preaching about faith and the environment.
The family built a passive solar home to conserve energy and instead of grass,
they grew wild flowers in their yard. They also purchased hybrid cars and
gradually used less energy and resources. Emma wrote her book when she was just
fifteen years old. It is for high school and college students, and explains how
small, everyday choices can impact on the natural environment. She shows how
everyone can make a positive difference at school, around the house and all over
the world in their choices about everything from transportation to food and
clothes. She believes that the problems with the environment are more about a
lack of knowledge than apathy. She says, “If my generation knew more about our
environmental crisis, they would rise to the challenge.”
