Environmental Education

For environmental education resources specifically designed for the developing world, see here.

Introduction

A Rocha projects worldwide are involved in many different programmes of environmental education, from hosting schools in Portugal to running an environmental art programme for rural women in Lebanon, to providing scholarships for secondary school students in Kenya and much more. A Rocha is working to help people appreciate the beauty and fragility of the natural world. In some locations A Rocha's environmental education programmes are the only opportunity local people have to learn about the importance of protecting the environment or to enjoy spending time in a natural setting.

A Rocha's educational programmes aim to:

  • Increase people's awareness of the natural world around them.
  • Promote nature conservation with communities that lack access to educational and scientific resources.
  • Build on a child's sense of wonder of the world that God has created.
  • Enhance the school curriculum through environmental activities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Give a biblical view of environmental stewardship and our relationship with God's creation.
  • Support churches in their role of promoting care for creation and responsible use of the world's resources.
  • Increase understanding of how our lifestyle impacts on the natural world and promote a more sustainable way of living.
