God created this world in a way that it automatically renews itself and the
cycle of life continues. The Earth practically heals itself. For example, when
volcanoes erupt and the lava burns everything in sight, people think that all
life has perished in that area. In reality, these areas that were covered by the
lava later become very rich, fertilized soil.
Unfortunately when we unwisely use the land that we were entrusted to care
for by our Creator we ruin/pollute it along with the sky, ignoring our biblical
responsibility as human beings towards God’s creation. Since the beginning, God
showed His love for creation. He made it very beautiful, and out of His love He
entrusted it to stewards that He created in His own image, so that they can care
for His creation and reflect God’s love for it. These stewards happen to be us
human beings.
However, these stewards ignored their responsibilities when they neglected
caring for creation and underestimated their overall responsibility, selfishly
abusing God’s creation instead of using it for their own welfare and that of
others. That is why creation is presently suffering and groans in distress,
waiting for humans to fulfill their responsibility in caring for it.
These days, we are seeing forests destroyed by fire, dangerous environmental
pollution by factories affecting both land and air, over grazing in fields,
unauthorized/uncontrolled hunting, global warming and many other problems
resulting from neglecting our spiritual faith and human responsibility towards
other humans and the nature around us.
Are the above mentioned problems currently affecting us negatively? Has there
not been an increase in diseases over the years? Have we not noticed the rising
in temperatures globally? Have we not noticed the increasing forest fires
everywhere? Where do we stand regarding all of these matters?
Brother, sister, let’s face it, neglect ruins creation! We are an essential
part of this creation and this neglect will eventually affect us all whether we
like it or not. Isn’t it time for us to realize that our neglect and the
destruction of Earth go hand in hand?
