1. A Rocha message

The Chairman of the Full Gospel churches of Uganda Invited ARUI to share the creation care message with the national supervisors of the group. Sara Kaweesa gave a biblical view to our environmental dilemma and had discussion with over thirty leaders and elders. As a result, the Glad Tidings Bible College is considering a course on the subject.

2. WASH project: Promotion of sanitation through toilet construction in a market

A Rocha has continued to work with the local council and other stakeholders to improve the sanitation and hygiene standards of people in a local market in Namungoona community. This year a desperately needed public toilet is being constructed in a small community market.

3. Climate Change & Environmental Degradation Risk & Adaptation assessment (CEDRA) tool training workshop

After participating in the CEDRA training workshop that was offered by Tearfund in July 2009 in Soroti, North Eastern Uganda, the ARUI team has now trained 27 people including a few religious leaders, all from 17 organizations in Kampala. The purpose of the training was to help organizations implementing development projects to assess the possible impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on their projects and therefore work with communities to find possible adaptation strategies.

4. A Rocha Environmental Education Programme (AREEP)

AREEP is an exciting and enthusiastic programme in schools, churches and other higher institutions of learning. A number of learning activities about creation care, land, air, water and other creatures have been designed and we expect to reach quite a number of schools and churches in the country. Our programs help children and develop their interest in caring for the environment. It is hoped that this connection will ensure future sustainability.

However we have a financial constraint hindering the smooth running of the creation care activities. If you know of any persons or groups that would like to support this program either by volunteering their time, skills and finances to facilitate, please contact us. You could also tell others about it. Schools can also send their textbooks or audio visual aids to pupils here to aid their learning.

5. Visitors

ARUI has been blessed to have David & Betty Payne from A Rocha International. During their stay, they visited the project area and we had a great opportunity to interact and share with staff and volunteers at the field base house. We received encouragement and ideas about the growth of the organisation.

6. Prayer points

ARUI appreciates all your prayers and hopes that you continue to stand with us throughout 2010. Please include the following in your prayers:

  1. ARUI land. We need a suitable piece of land to establish our own centre for environmental education as well as other nature conservation activities
  2. AREEP needs funding to facilitate activities around schools and the different communities. We also seek God’s provision for other ARUI activities like research, advocacy and management.
  3. We would like many churches to come on board to further disseminate the message of creation care.
  4. Strength and wisdom to work in challenging situations.
